Letter from the Founder
I’m Zainabou Thiam, a first-generation Senegalese-American. My relationship with my culture has moved through connection, disconnection, and proud reconnection. Through it all, the rituals of my heritage have taught me to love myself, care for my body, and honor my roots.
Sunu Body was born from that journey, what began as a personal act of reconnection became a mission to share the rituals I grew up with: exfoliating with the African net sponge, cleansing with black soap, and moisturizing with shea butter.
In Wolof, sunu means “our,” and that’s what this brand is: ours. Our rituals. Our stories. Our beauty.
Each product is handmade by women artisans in West Africa and carries the spirit of African care, intentional, ethical, and rooted in community.
Sunu Body exists to remind us that beauty isn’t something to earn.
It’s something we inherit.
With love,
Zainabou Thiam
